By definition, anyone under the age of 25 in Canada is considered to be in the 'youth' category. And approximately one-third of Canadians are under age 25. This section provides historical, current, and projected data on the changing demographics of Canada’s child and youth population.

Effective policies and programs must recognize, anticipate, and respond appropriately to the needs of our increasingly diverse population. This demographic diversity presents itself differently across Canada, and the data in this section help illustrate these regional differences.

If you need to know more about the shifting age composition and rich ethnicities, cultures, and languages of young Canadians, or the unique demographic characteristics of our growing Aboriginal population, this section is for you.
