For Immediate Distribution

Ottawa, March 12, 2015 – The internationally recognized Ottawa mobile startup, PlayMC2, launched its first crowdfunding campaign today through the online fundraising website, Indiegogo.

PlayMC2 is a free mobile app which rewards people for doing the things they love. On the app, people are empowered to track their daily activities by taking photos of the things they’re doing, which are connected by hashtags. When combined, these activities empower people, NGO’s, government organizations, brands and celebrities to collectively accomplish goals big and small - that have a lasting impact on the communities and the world around us.

PlayMC2 (beta) was launched in 68 countries from Ottawa in September 2014 with a number of partners internationally (Global Dignity, Interpeace and the Canadian Council on Social Development). Over the course of the beta trials, thousands of activities relating to dignity, peace and nation building were completed by youth around the world – especially in Canada.

The goal of the one month crowdfunding campaign is to raise $35,000 by April 12th in order to expand the community internationally (especially in Canada) and to integrate custom badges, avatars and stickers into the app.

The campaign video and collateral material features “Faya,” an altruistic black and white French Bulldog living in Ottawa – who shows people how to use the app by picking up an old piece of newspaper from the ground.

“Faya is a great example of how easy it is to do something small everyday, which can have a lasting impact on our community – like picking up a piece of garbage,” said Giovanna Mingarelli, the CEO and Co-Founder of PlayMC2.

“When people collectively pick up garbage across the city, one piece at a time, that creates a campaign – with very little effort. If Faya can do it, anybody can.”

The exciting rewards being offered for contributing to the crowdfunding campaign range anywhere from $10 for a fistbump from Faya on Twitter, to $100 for your own custom badge on the app. The top reward for a $5,000 contribution includes a luxury weekend stay in Ottawa complete with a visit to the Nordik Spa in Wakefield, Quebec.

People everywhere are invited to visit PlayMC2’s Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign page for details and to contribute today. We can also be found on Twitter (@MC2 Universe), Facebook (MC2 Universe) and Instagram (MC2 Universe). Watch the campaign video here.
