Message from Peggy Taillon, President and CEO, CCSD: New Approach, New Initiatives
February 14, 2014 -- CCSD is launching a new approach and strategic initiatives that complement and build on our flagship program, the Community Data Program (CDP), and on our strong network of partners, to build stronger, more caring communities in Canada through evidence, collaboration and design.
As Canada’s longest serving social development organization, it was time to look anew at the CCSD’s mission and strategic direction. We have articulated the results in Nation Building through evidence, collaboration and design. This document provides a framework for the CCSD to move forward.
Our partners in the CDP have been working with us for almost two decades to acquire and use local data to better understand and plan for the needs of communities and neighbourhoods across the country. We are now laying the foundation for a new initiative called Collaboratories, or CoLabs, to create platforms for innovation and active problem solving focused on addressing the many issues and challenges we face in our communities today. Several projects in Mental Health and Addictions, Palliative Care and Housing are underway.
We believe challenges can be solved through a deliberative approach that is inclusive of all partners, ensuring that the end user is part of framing the issues and the solutions. Simply put, society designed the problem – whether inequality, homelessness, discrimination, climate change, to name a few – but we also have the power to “design” the solution.
Our goal is to work with our partners and stimulate a network of community collaboratories, both physical and virtual, that are able to learn from each other, share insights and practices, and collectively build stronger and more inclusive communities.
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
- Albert Einstein
CCSD is a not-for-profit organization that partners and collaborates with all sectors (not-for-profit, philanthropic, government and business) and communities to advance solutions to today’s toughest social challenges. As a neutral, non-partisan, non-governmental and independent organization, the CCSD provides an evidence-based “safe space” that facilitates open and honest dialogue among the many sectors and the public. This safe space leads to innovative and active problem solving to address a wide variety of the issues and challenges we face in our society today.
